rocrastination Causes and Anatomy of Procrastination

What is procrastination and what are its causes? Imagine that you put PLN 100 in your wallet every evening , and when you wake up in the morning, PLN 30 is missing and you do not know where the money has gone. Dpeople do not know what they did for 218 minutes a day. In other words, more than 3 hours a day simply “disappear”. During the year, we lose about 55 days in this way , which is … almost 2 months .

This is how procrastination works. This applies to all of us. In some issues, even when we try hard, it is difficult to get something out of the drawer marked with the sign “I’ll deal with it later”.

Procrastination is getting easier

Procrastination is not only difficult to overcome, but it is also becoming more and more difficult to fight against it. Researchers from the University of Calgary, studying this phenomenon, showed that the percentage of people with chronic procrastination increased from 5% in 1978 to 26% in 2007. The results of further studies in this area will certainly show an even greater difference.

Nowadays, when we have access to information all the time and we are “connected to the system” all the time, we are constantly tempted to put things off.

Checking current information, updating social media and chatting with friends from around the world via instant messengers. It’s all one big stream of information that never stops.

Don’t get me wrong – the Internet is a wonderful thing that has led to a communication revolution. The problem, however, is that if left unchecked, the Internet can, like an electronic vampire, suck the life and energy out of you.

Of course, you don’t have to take my word for itime to Database maket. Webtrate research has shown that the use of e-mail and social media steals 1 hour a day for 36% of respondents, and for another 16% of people it is more than 1 hour a day.

So the procrastination trend is high, but technology isn’t the only factor we can blame.

The Constant Struggle With Emotions

Database

It turns out that procrastination is at the center of all of us. Procrastination is strongly related to our feelings.

Before we move on, let’s do a quick biology review and focus on the limbic system. This system acts as the emotional center of the brain. It participates in Mobile List  the regulation of emotional behavior and some emotional states such as fear, contentment, pleasure, euphoria, elation.

In short, it can be given a role in making the ” Fight or Flight ” decision and prompts us to “feel” first.

When our feelings are negative (for example, when we hear bad news), we look for ways to divert our attention. That’s when we usually reach for immediate pleasures such as chocolate, social media or marathons of TV series.
