The vision that X will become an all-in-one platform is clear. But what you can ask yourself is whether people will let their accounts and payments be managed by a platform that, since this weekend, has been known to change course from one day to the next. Consistency, trust and a sense of security are essential in this. Values that do not currently belong to either X or Elon Musk himself. In addition, the ambitions will require time, money and people. However, the platform’s advertising revenue has fallen dramatically and since Musk’s takeover, 80% of Twitter’s staff has reportedly been laid off.
Party at Mark’s house
The timing of the rebranding couldn’t have been worse in my opinion. Meta recently launched its ‘Threads’ which whatsapp lead was quickly labeled as ‘a copy of Twitter’. The latter now wants to take a different path, which leaves the door wide open for Twitter users at Mark Zuckerberg. I also believe that Meta is following the developments around Twitter/X with interest and enjoys how Elon seems to be shooting himself in the foot in this way.
The speed, the sound and especially the violence that the rebranding involves are completely in line with how we know Elon Musk. He is a man who is crazy about innovation and technological developments. With his other companies such as Tesla, SpaceX and The Boring Company, he is also part of this. They are distinctive brands that challenge and renew the status quo. In all these companies and how they present themselves, you see the personality of Musk. The driven, but certainly also the impulsive and the demand for attention.
